How Should You Prepare For Ramadan 2023, And How Should You Spend It?

The prophet’s (SAW) companions used to fast six months before the next Ramadan to prepare for the new month. Our Muslim population is so preoccupied these days that they are completely unaware that Ramadan has arrived.

However, living in the modern era, it is easy to spend this holy month in an ideal way as the teachings of Islam have been made easy to access with online Quran teaching. With the practice of good deeds and learning the Quran, everyone can spend the Holy month of Ramadan in a much better way.

This takes us to the question, “How can we be fully prepared to receive the Barakah of this holy month?”

How Should You Prepare For Ramadan

Sincere Repentance

Make it a habit to perform Zikr, even if it is as simple as saying (Astaghfirullah) on the Tasbih whenever you have time or after Salat. You should also enjoy praying the Nafilah and Tahajjud in order to repent.

According to the Qur’an, verse 66:8, “O you who believe, turn to Allah with sincere repentance in the hope that your Lord will expiate your sins.”

Be Happy And Demonstrate Happiness.

Allah has made Ramadan for us. According to Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet (SAW) says, “When Ramadan approaches, the doors of Jannah open, the doors of hell close, and the devil is chained.” (Bukhari/Muslim).

This also implies that we should cleanse our minds of hatred and filth in order to be genuinely happy and rejoice as the month approaches.

Reflect, Recite, and Renew

The three R’s are for every Muslim to reflect on the characteristics that define them as Muslims. It is said that a Muslim should try to read the entire 114 chapters of the Qur’an during the month of Ramadan.

It is not compulsory that you become a Hafiz, but rather that you read the holy book and develop a closer relationship with Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala). We must also remember to pray, perform the Nafilah, recite the Tasbih, and perform charitable acts.

Get Rid Of The Bad Habit

Although there are no direct restrictions on what we can and cannot do during Ramadan, the prophet encourages us to be good to others.

So, instead of drinking, smoking, and clubbing, spend more time performing Ramadan good deeds such as going to the mosque, attending Quran classes or participating in voluntary acts to help the poor and needy.

Maintain The Integrity Of Your Salat

Aside from the five daily prayers, learn to pray two raka’ats before and after Salat, with the exception of Magrib. Indulge in Tarawih and Tahajjud, especially during the last 10 days of Ramadan, when the night better than a thousand months will be seen – Qiyam ul layl.

Get Up For Suhoor And Have Iftar.

During the month of Ramadan, a Muslim must eat two meals: suhur, which is a pre-dawn meal eaten before the second call of the Fajar prayer or just before the sun rises; and Iftar, which is the second meal consumed after the sun has set or at the first call of Maghrib.

Before settling down for the proper breaking of the fast, the prophet recommends that Muslims eat dates, drink water, and pray the Maghrib. This allows you to pray more comfortably without being distracted by hunger.

As you prepare for Ramadan, consider the words of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW):’

A Hadith Related To Preparation For Ramadan

According to Ibn-e-Khuzaymah’s Hadith, the prophet was quoted as saying, “O people, there has come upon us a great month, a most blessed month, in which lies a month worth more than a thousand nights” (lai lat’ul Kadri). Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) has made fasting obligatory this month and has made nighttime wakefulness a Sunnah.

Whoever draws closer to Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) in this month will be rewarded as if he had performed a mandatory deed at any other time of the year.

And whoever performs a compulsory deed shall receive the reward of seventy compulsory deeds performed at any other time of the year. This is a month of patience, and the reward for patience is Jannatul Firdaus. It is a month of compassion for our fellow man; it is a month in which a true believer’s provision grows.”
