What Is Noorani Qaida?
Noorani Qaida (also known as Qaida Noorania) is the classic first book used to learn how to read the Holy Quran. It introduces the Arabic letters, their sounds and the simple rules that take a complete beginner, step by step, from single letters to reading full Quranic words.
Think of it as the alphabet and phonics stage of Quran learning. Before anyone can recite the Quran fluently, they first need to recognise each Arabic letter, pronounce it from the correct place, and join letters together with the right vowels. Noorani Qaida builds exactly these skills in a clear, tested order, which is why we treat this Quran foundation course as the true starting point for every new learner.
Why Noorani Qaida Is Such an Important Foundation
A strong Quran foundation prevents reading mistakes that are difficult to correct later. Students who complete Noorani Qaida read more accurately, pronounce letters properly and gain the confidence to open the Mushaf and read on their own. It is a core part of our wider range of online Quran courses and the first step we recommend to every beginner.
What You Will Learn in the Noorani Qaida Course
By the end of our online Noorani Qaida course, a student will be able to read Quranic words confidently and with correct pronunciation. Along the way you will learn:
- Arabic letter recognition: all 28 letters by name, sound and shape.
- Letter forms: beginning, middle, end and isolated positions.
- Makharij: the correct point of articulation for each letter.
- Harakat: the short vowels Fathah, Kasrah and Dammah.
- Tanween, Sukoon and Shaddah: the symbols that shape every word.
- Madd letters: basic, consistent elongation of sounds.
- Joining letters: connecting letters to read complete words.
- Stopping signs: where to pause when reading the Mushaf.

Inside the Course: A Step-by-Step Curriculum
Every topic builds on the one before it, so students always feel ready for the next step. Here is what our online Noorani Qaida course covers in detail.
1. Arabic Letters and Their Forms
Students begin with the 28 Arabic letters, learning each letter's name, sound and shape. Because letters change their look depending on where they sit in a word, learners also practise the beginning, middle, end and isolated forms so they can recognise letters anywhere in the Mushaf.
2. Makharij and Correct Pronunciation
Makharij are the points of articulation, the exact places in the mouth and throat where each letter is formed. Getting these right early prevents common reading errors and gives every letter its proper sound.
3. Harakat: Fathah, Kasrah and Dammah
The short vowels bring letters to life. Students learn Fathah (a short "a" sound), Kasrah (a short "i" sound) and Dammah (a short "u" sound), and how each one changes the way a letter is read.
4. Tanween, Sukoon and Shaddah
Next come the essential symbols: Tanween (the doubled vowel endings), Sukoon (a letter with no vowel) and Shaddah (a stressed, doubled letter). These marks appear throughout the Quran and are vital for accurate reading.
5. Madd Letters and Basic Elongation
Madd letters teach students how and when to gently lengthen a sound. At this stage we keep elongation simple and consistent, helping learners build good habits before studying detailed Tajweed later.
6. Joining Letters and Reading Quranic Words
With the building blocks in place, students connect letters to read complete words, then progress to real Quranic words and short phrases, gaining fluency with regular practice.
7. Basic Stopping and Pausing Signs
Finally, learners are introduced to the basic stopping and pausing signs found in the Mushaf, so they know where to pause and take a breath when reading longer passages.
Who Is the Noorani Qaida Course For?
This Quran foundation course is designed for anyone starting their Quran reading journey, with lessons adapted to each learner's age and ability. Because every class is one-to-one, the same course works well for very different students.
Noorani Qaida for Children
Younger learners stay motivated through short, interactive lessons, gentle repetition and plenty of encouragement. Tutors keep the pace comfortable and celebrate small wins, helping children build confidence and a genuine love for reading the Quran. Parents looking for a dedicated programme can also explore our online Quran classes for kids.
Noorani Qaida for Adults and Complete Beginners
It is never too late to start. Many of our adult students begin as complete beginners who have never read Arabic before. Lessons are private and pressure-free, moving at a pace that suits busy schedules, so adults can learn calmly and steadily without feeling self-conscious.
How Teaching Differs for Children and Adults
The curriculum is the same, but the approach is not. With children, tutors use more repetition, visual cues and playful pacing to hold attention. With adults, tutors explain the reason behind each rule, answer questions in depth and adjust lesson length around work and family. This flexibility is one of the main advantages of one-to-one learning.
