Cookie Policy

Last updated: 11 September 2026 (policy version 2026-09-11).

This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies QuranHost uses, what they do, and how you control them. It applies to quranhost.com.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Some are set by us (first-party); others are set by services we use, such as Google (third-party). Similar technologies such as pixels and local storage are covered by this policy in the same way.

How consent works on this site

When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. Nothing non-essential is set until you decide where the law requires your permission (including the UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE and the EU). In the United States, where the law works on an opt-out basis, analytics and advertising may run by default and you can opt out at any time.

Your choice is stored in a first-party cookie called qh_consent together with the date, the policy version you agreed to, and the region the choice was made in. If we change this policy in a way that affects your choice, we will ask you again.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out of advertising cookies and of the sale or sharing of your data, automatically.

Change or withdraw your consent

You can change your mind at any time. Click Cookie Settings in the footer of any page to turn categories on or off, or to withdraw consent altogether. Withdrawing consent removes the cookies those categories set on our domain and stops them being set again.

The Quran reader is never tracked

Our Quran reading pages (/reading-quran-online-resources and every /reading-quran-online-juz-โ€ฆ page) load no analytics, no advertising, no chat widget and no consent banner. Nothing third-party runs there. We believe reading the Quran should not be measured.

Cookies we use

Necessary โ€” always on. These keep the site working and cannot be switched off.

  • qh_consent โ€” your cookie choice. Set by QuranHost. 12 months.
  • _GRECAPTCHA โ€” Google reCAPTCHA, protects our forms from spam and abuse. Set by google.com. 6 months.
  • __Secure-authjs.session-token โ€” keeps site administrators signed in. Only set when an administrator logs in. Session.
  • twk_uuid_โ€ฆ, twk_idm_key, TawkConnectionTime โ€” power the live-chat widget so a conversation can continue across pages. Set by tawk.to. Up to 18 months.

Analytics โ€” with your consent. Help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Data is aggregated.

  • _ga, _ga_โ€ฆ โ€” Google Analytics 4: distinguishes visitors and sessions. Set by QuranHost via Google. 2 years.

Marketing / Advertising โ€” with your consent. Measure whether our advertising works and show relevant ads.

  • _gcl_au โ€” Google Ads conversion measurement. 3 months.
  • test_cookie, IDE โ€” Google Ads / DoubleClick, ad measurement and remarketing. Set by doubleclick.net. 15 minutes / 13 months.
  • _fbp, _fbc โ€” Meta (Facebook) Pixel, ad measurement and remarketing. Set by Meta, only if we have enabled the Meta Pixel. 3 months.

Google Consent Mode

We use Google Consent Mode v2. Before you choose, every Google tag on the site is told that analytics and advertising storage are denied, so no analytics or advertising cookies are set. When you accept, we tell Google what you allowed. Where storage is denied, Google may still receive anonymous, cookie-free signals that cannot be linked to you.

Your rights by region

UK & EU (UK GDPR, PECR, GDPR): consent is required for non-essential cookies; you may withdraw it at any time. Canada (PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25): we obtain meaningful consent before non-essential tracking. Australia (Privacy Act): we tell you what we collect and ask before non-essential tracking. UAE (Personal Data Protection Law): we obtain consent before non-essential tracking. United States (CCPA/CPRA and similar state laws): you may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information at any time via Cookie Settings, and we honour the Global Privacy Control signal.
