Amazing Benefits of Reciting the Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the book of Allah that was revealed on the Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon Him). It isn’t just a book but words of Allah, in which, Allah defines the way we should spend our lives. Other than that, it’s so heart-touching that reading it feels as though Allah is talking to us. The most interesting fact about it is that it doesn’t only benefit Muslims, but also has deep effects on non-Muslims.

Moreover, it has both worldly and hereafter advantages. It defines a complete lifestyle that is as per human nature, thereby benefitting the entire humankind. You will get to know some of the benefits of the Holy Quran as the article unfolds. You can get to listen to it online at Quranhost and reap the fruits.

Purification of the Soul

As mentioned earlier, it isn’t just a common book, but these are the words of Allah through which, He talks to us. The verses of the Quran are so deep that they cover every aspect of our lives. Other than the principles and laws, it even talks about our emotions and human needs and satisfies our souls to the deepest. Therefore, reciting Quran results in the purification of the soul and mind.

A Companion on the Day of Judgement

Apart from soothing us in this world, the Holy Quran will be our companion in the Akhirah. It will fight for us on the Day of Judgment and take us out from the fire. It will be our only companion there as it will be a day when even the brother won’t listen to his brother and everyone will worry about himself only.

Abu Umamah al-Bahili reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Recite the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.” (Sahih Muslim 804)

Raised Status for Those Who Learn It and Teach It

The Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon Him) said: “the best among you is the one who reads the Quran and teaches it to others.” See, how high your rank goes just by reciting and teaching it! You become the best in the eyes of Allah, and it is as though you talk to Him when you read it.

This narration comes from Uthman ibn Affan and is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari 5027.

Ten Rewards for Every Letter

According to a hadith of Jami’ at-Tirmidhi, “there are ten rewards for each letter of the Quran. Whoever reads a letter from it gets ten rewards, and I don’t say that Alif laam meem is one letter. But, Alif is one, laam is second, and meem is the third letter.” The narration is from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and was graded hasan sahih by al-Tirmidhi and sahih by al-Albani (Al-Tirmidhi 2910).

The Proficient Reciter and the Noble Scribes

Moreover, Hazrat Ayesha (R.A.) says that the Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon Him) said, “noble angels will accompany a person who recites Quran immaculately and smoothly.” These ahadith explain the significance of the Holy Quran and also identifies the unlimited amount of reward you get from it. The narration is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari 4937 and Sahih Muslim 798.

How Much of the Quran Should You Read Daily?

Islam does not prescribe a specific portion for the Muslim to recite on a daily basis. The portion may differ depending on the convenience and capacity of each Muslim. However, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed his Companions that they should recite the entire Qur'an at least once a month.

This means that reciting at least one Juza' of the Quran every day is preferable. Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) demonstrated that the maximum portion that a Muslim should not exceed for the entire Quran is three days. He (saw) explained why it is not preferable to complete the entire Quran in such a short period of time:

Abdullah ibn Amr inquired of the Prophet (PBUH), “How many days should I recite the entire Qur'an, Messenger of Allah?” In one month, he replied. He said, “I am more energetic to complete it in a shorter period of time than this.” He kept repeating these words and shortening the time until he said, “Complete it in seven days.” He said once more, “I'm more energized to finish it in less time than this.”

To this, the Holy Prophet PBUH said, “One who completes the recitation of the Qur'an in less than three days doesn’t understand it.” (Abu Dawud 1394, graded sahih by al-Albani; also Al-Tirmidhi 2949 and Ibn Majah 1347)

Building a lasting habit is a separate question from reward, and it is covered in the importance of connection with the Quran.
